Abstract

The objective of this research study is to evaluate the internal consistency and reliability of the CO instrument of organizational commitment through an exploratory analysis. The instrument, created by Meyer and Allen (1993), translated into Spanish by Arciniega and González (2012), measures the affective commitment, continuity commitment and normative commitment dimensions using 18 items. The previous internal consistency analyses found a Cronbach's Alpha for the total of instrument of a= 0.910 and 0.764, 0.790, 0.756 for each of the dimensions. To verify the homogeneity of the variables, the modifications were previously detected by KMO, obtaining an acceptable Kaiser Meyer Olkin index of 0.916 and a Chi square of 670.524 with 153 degrees of freedom and significance level = 0.000 (p <. 001) using the Bartlett sphericity test, as a requirement for the extraction of factors using rotated components, obtaining loads for the first factor between 0.674 and 0.685, for the second factor, loads between 0.834 and 0.557, for the third factor, loads between 0.724 and 0.669, demonstrating evidence of a high correlation, because they are greater than 0.4, fulfilling the objective of seeing if they are grouped empirically, as theoretically predicted. However, the item CONT 7 (0.516, 0.446) and NOR (0.370, 0.448) did not obtain a load in its dimension and the items AFE 1 (0.685), AFE 2 (0.674), AFE 4 (0.587), AFE 6 (0.544), CONT 8 (0.347), CONT 10 (0.557), CONT 11 (0.553), CONT 12 (0.531), NOR 16 (0.616 ), NOR 17 (0.518) and NOR 18 (0.480) obtained additional loads on other factors, which can be eliminated, but they were kept in their theoretical factors, awaiting a confirmatory analysis.
